Not a Christian Nation
Posted by pdh in political on May 27th, 2009
President Barack H. Obama said in Turkey : “We do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values.”
But, we ought not to forget that the individual constitutions of each of the 50 States of this union mention the Judeao-Christian God prominently in their preambles or in their articles.
What BHO really means is that he is happy to try to make this country into a country that is not Christian. In the socio-political context, we have to realize that Turkey bills itself as a country governed by a “secular” government, even though it is overwhelmingly Muslim in its religion. In fact, there is a very strong Islamic resurgence that is literally taking over the government (2009-05), returning it to its Ottoman/Islamic roots.
